Olga Fonda talks about Nadia's past and her connection to Katherine

SPOILER ALERT

The Vampire Diaries revealed a huge hit when it was discovered that Katherine was the mother that Nadia had been searching for all this time.

For the actress, Olga Fonda, who plays the enigmatic Nadia, the revelation "was a big surprise," admits to The Hollywood Reporter. "For us, it was exciting to shoot each episode so much as it is seen to be fans because we don't know where the writers will take the characters and their stories. "There are too many twists and entanglements and new information."

Fonda speaks to THR about the connection of Katherine with Nadia, uncovering the past of his character and commenting on the plan of Nadia Gregor and Matt.

-How impressive was when you had the script for the episode of last week with the revelation that Katherine was the mother of Nadia?
When I read it, it was definitely a pleasant surprise. I wasn't expecting it at all. I thought it was a great twist and that it was a great trip for both characters in the following chapters.

-Was there a moment or a line that should have you led to think about the relationship of Nadia with Katherine?
We knew nothing of the Nadia agenda and there was mystery to all of us in the by what Nadia came to Mystic Falls, but we knew that it had to be a very passionate reason for all conversations. We knew that she was waiting for 500 years and was very important for her to be in Mystic Falls to find Katherine but we didn't necessarily know the history about it. I knew that it had something to do with Katherine, but I didn't know it would be a story of mother and daughter.

-Now that they have meeted, how will change their relationship in the following episodes?
Now that we have the confession of Katherine saying that it was looking for Nadia, what I think was a great twist for both characters, we will have to see your trip now. It was something that Nadia had been waiting for too many centuries: why I left? The history of all these years... from: "did you ever think in me? Who was my father? Who were my grandparents?" She has questions about those years that you will want to get answers. Knowing Katherine, probably not be easy to get them in good ways. They will have to get to know one another and will see where that will take them.

-It seemed as if they were comforting each other at the end of the episode. Will that continue?
Knowing Katherine, she is a stubborn character. I like to say that the apple does not fall far from the tree, so I am sure that their heads will pump here and there.

-Are you open to overhaul its past, possibly in flashbacks?
For me, it would be interesting to see the story of Nadia and her past and really find out who is. At this point, Nadia is still a mystery. We do not know by what has happened to her to get here. We don't necessarily know where does she comes from. We don't know where she traveled and who she met.

-Now that she has found her mother, what will search Nadia? Does she have a new goal?
Her position now is that she have found something she had been looking for a long time, get the answers and having her mother in her life.

-Nadia also has a story line with Matt and Gregor. What can you tell us about that?
It will not be the last time that we see Matt and Nadia interact. You may discover that they have some similarities in future episodes. I feel that whenever we do a scene, there is some chemistry hidden between the two characters and it will be interesting to see where that leads to.

-A romantic connection?
I'm not sure. That's a mystery! (She laughs)

-You can get us a scene or moment of a next episode?
There is a scene in the chapter of the week coming [Nov. 14] that is going to be really nice. It is a scene where Nadia will arrive to Caroline's room looking for Katherine to talk awith her bout their future. It is something you'll be expecting to arrive because it's a powerful scene.
